Detailed Itinerary: 6 Days Ngorongoro & Serengeti Adventure

1

Day 1 – Arrival in Arusha

Your adventure begins in Arusha, the gateway to Tanzania’s northern safari circuit. Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha city, you’ll be met by your safari guide and transferred to your lodge for check-in and relaxation. Arusha’s cool climate and views of Mount Meru make it the perfect place to unwind and prepare for the journey ahead. Depending on your arrival time, you can explore the local markets or simply enjoy a tranquil evening at your lodge surrounded by lush gardens.

Dinner and overnight in Arusha.

Day 2 – Arusha to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After an early breakfast, you depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Africa’s most extraordinary natural wonders. The scenic drive takes you through the Great Rift Valley and into the highlands, where rolling hills and local villages paint a picture of rural Tanzania.

Arriving by midday, you descend 600 meters into the Ngorongoro Crater, a vast volcanic caldera teeming with wildlife. Within this natural amphitheater live over 25,000 large animals — including lions, elephants, zebras, wildebeest, and the rare black rhino. The crater floor is dotted with lakes, acacia woodlands, and open plains, creating an incredible microcosm of African wilderness.

After a picnic lunch by the hippo pool, you continue exploring the crater before ascending to the rim in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight are enjoyed at a lodge perched on the crater edge, offering panoramic views of this breathtaking Eden.

3

Day 3 – Ngorongoro to Central Serengeti

After breakfast, you journey westward toward Serengeti National Park, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa. Along the way, you can visit a traditional Maasai village, where you’ll meet the proud pastoralists who have coexisted with wildlife for centuries. Their songs, dances, and colorful attire provide a vivid glimpse into Tanzania’s cultural heritage.

By midday, you enter the Serengeti through Naabi Hill Gate, where the endless plains open before you like a golden ocean. Wildlife is abundant from the very start — herds of wildebeest, zebras, giraffes, and gazelles roam freely across the land. The afternoon game drive introduces you to the rhythms of the Serengeti: lions basking in the shade, elephants trudging across open fields, and cheetahs scanning the horizon for prey.

You arrive at your lodge or tented camp in Central Serengeti (Seronera) for dinner and overnight, surrounded by the music of the wild.

4

Day 4 – Full-Day Game Drive in Serengeti National Park

The Serengeti awakens with the first light of dawn, and so will you — ready for a full day of exploration in one of the world’s richest ecosystems. This day is devoted to game drives across the Seronera Valley, an area known for its year-round water sources and exceptional predator sightings.

You may encounter lions on the hunt, leopards lounging in trees, or herds of elephants crossing rivers in silent procession. If your safari coincides with the Great Migration, you’ll witness millions of wildebeest and zebras moving in a spectacular display of instinct and endurance — a true wonder of nature.

A picnic lunch is enjoyed in the wild, surrounded by breathtaking views of the plains. In the afternoon, you continue your adventure until sunset, when the savanna glows in hues of orange and gold.

Dinner and overnight at your Serengeti lodge or camp.

5

Day 5 – Serengeti to Ngorongoro Highlands

After breakfast, you begin a leisurely drive back through the Serengeti, enjoying wildlife sightings along the way. The route offers a chance to spot species you may have missed earlier — from hyenas trotting across the plains to vultures circling above a recent kill.

You then travel back toward the Ngorongoro Highlands, with a possible stop at the Olduvai Gorge, one of the most important paleoanthropological sites in the world. Known as the “Cradle of Mankind,” Olduvai is where early human fossils and tools were discovered, shedding light on our shared origins.

Arriving in Karatu or on the crater rim by evening, you settle into your lodge for a peaceful night amid the cool highland air.

6

Day 6 – Return to Arusha

After a relaxed breakfast, you begin your journey back to Arusha, driving through coffee plantations and the scenic escarpments of the Rift Valley. Depending on your flight schedule, you may stop for local shopping or a cultural visit before continuing to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure.

Your 6-day adventure may come to an end, but the memories — of lions roaring across the plains, of sunrise over the Serengeti, of mist curling around the Ngorongoro rim — will stay with you forever.
